New Minimal.

We fully adore the use of C-Stands in this sparse, post-industrial loft. When furnishing, never overwrite  those products made for purely utilitarian purposes. Form follows function, right?

Summer Vacation.

Our apologies as we have been away for some time! We are back now, though, inspired and full of ideas. More fresh posts in the coming weeks! Thanks for sticking around.

Vintage Milking Stools.

Over here at RLD, our obsession with vintage milking stools has blossomed into a full on love affair. Absolutely flawless as end tables or beside a claw foot tub, milking stools embody rustic design stemming of out pure function and very little means. No two are ever identical because of their hand-crafted history. Simple and refined; and usually well under $100!

Stable Acre.

Built within the ruins of a 19th century stable block, Stable Acre by David Kohn Architects personifies the robust simplicity we've come to associate with the Rough Luxe lifestyle. Open floor plans paired with minimal utilities and hand-touched, historical pieces create a warm and sophisticated living interior space. Check out the concrete tub; it's especially unique. Enjoy!

Oldfield's Liquor Room.

A perfectly classy and old school place to meet friend's or a new flame, Oldfield's Liquor Room has some of the coolest, most classic, style in Los Angeles right now. From thick wood & leather stools to the subway tiles and antique mirrors, it's like stepping into a well-loved 1930's Chicago bar. Not to mention, the drinks are unreal. Happy Hour is from 5pm-9pm every day! If you go, you might see us there. Don't forget to look up because the ceiling is made from reclaimed wood and screams Rough Luxe. The Nomad Hotel.

Just recently opened, the Nomad Hotel, featuring 168 rooms of Jacques Garcia interior design, has quickly caught the attention of designers and aesthetes who travel to the big city regularly. And there are many good reasons why: an incredible ivy-enveloped atrium, a massive two-story plush library, clean white minimal & classy bedrooms, antique lighting in every room, dark robust wood accents throughout, and a sitting room with a roaring marble fireplace to boot. Check in and and never check out. We may all be nomads at heart, but we think think this hotel is here to stay. Photographs courtesy of Better Shelter.

Alice in Wonderland Style via Remodelista.

This recent posting by Remodelista chronicles the interior styling of a unique Victorian home located in Australia and owned by make-up artist Debra Cronin. Peeling walls, aging flea market finds, tarnished silver candlesticks, mismatched chairs, and very unique uses of the colors grey & black all lend a hand to create a dense dreamy atmosphere. Well done! All photographs by Debra Cronin.

Freemans Restaurant.

With a menu that simply, yet proudly describes farm-style entrees such as 'Roulade of Rabbit with celery root, apples, bacon, chantrelles' and 'Slow Cooked Heritage Pork, braised cabbage, and smoked garlic jus,' Freeman's Restaurant aesthetically looks just as delicious as it sounds. Classic bent wood chairs pair with flannel upholstered benches. Old frames, black & white photographs, antlers, lit fireplaces, and shadow boxes sporting stuff game, all create an atmosphere more similar to a 1940's lodge than a NYC restaurant. Freeman's is highly recommend and we absolutely suggest, without hesitation, dining there! Photographs courtesy of Elle Decor & Freeman's Restaurant.

The Ranch at Live Oak Malibu.

Promoting both fitness and mental well being, The Ranch at Live Oak Malibu is the type of detox locale we would like to check into indefinitely. From serious workouts & long hikes to daily nap sessions in a spa-like atmosphere, the attitude behind The Ranch is all about sustainable exercise & healthy activity moderated over time. Food is grown in The Ranch's very own organic garden, and created with the freshest ingredients by a master chef. All this pampering aside, the Ranch itself looks quite beautiful in it's appearance, sporting clean white walls, floors & doors made out of reclaimed scaffolding, stacks of logs piled high to the ceiling, antique terra cotta planters, and indoor-outdoor environments only possible in a Southern California climate. If you don't hear from us for a week, you know where we'll be.

Complete with it's own vineyard, in it's own valley (!!) this 5 star resort begs to be explored with a warm gaze and a private vibe. Cedar lodges, outdoor showers, carved walking sticks, grazing sheep, fresh well water, & beehives are all accessible amenities of this ultimate getaway. Thank to Remodelista for the tip!
